Maggie Jones

Maggie Jones was born in New Castle County and has resided here for her entire life. She grew up in the Prices Corner area and became a single mother at the age of 17, while still in high school. She graduated from Howard High School in Wilmington where she was supported by teachers and staff who encouraged and taught her the value of personal commitment, sacrifice, and hard work.

Upon graduation, she began working full time at JP Morgan while raising her daughter. Her experience at JP Morgan launched her lifelong desire to help people. After three years there, Maggie began a 24-year career working in state government. While working full time and raising a family, Maggie obtained an Associate and Bachelor’s Degrees in Criminal Justice, a Paralegal Certificate and a Master’s of Jurisprudence in Corporate and Business Law, with honors, from Widener University School of Law. She was also a Nationally Registered EMT-B and attended Delaware State Fire School.

While working for the State of Delaware, Maggie held positions in multiple agencies with increasing levels of responsibilities. Those agencies include over 24 years combined experience with the Delaware Department of Labor, Division of Child Support Enforcement, and the Division of Developmental Disabilities Services. She also worked as a Training Specialist at the Delaware Skills Center, and currently serves as the Instructional Coordinator for the Workforce Development and Community Education Department at Delaware Technical Community College.

Her professional life has provided her extensive experience in public service. Maggie has a passion for serving individuals with barriers and the citizens who require additional assistance. She understands the need for accessible services throughout the county. For over 24 years she has advocated to support those most in need and has experience managing state and federal contracts, including working on the front lines ensuring those with special needs are receiving the required services in order to promote a safe, healthy and self-sufficient lifestyle.

Her life experience proves that she understands the challenges of raising children as a single parent, while working full time and pursuing an education in order to provide future opportunities for her children.

Maggie is results-oriented and wants to make sure communities have a voice in the “smart growth” discussion. Maggie does not believe in “personal bias politics”. For Maggie, the upcoming election is about the needs of the citizens of New Castle County. She believes that all issues are important if they are important to the community. She is committed to gaining the public’s trust through establishing long-lasting partnerships leading to sustainable outcomes.

Maggie has represented the Department of Labor on the Interagency Council on Adult Literacy, and the Delaware Workforce Investment Board Youth Council. She has also served on the Delaware State Foster Care Review Board and the Northern Star Children’s Foundation.

Maggie and her husband Schuyler live in the Middletown area and are both long time members of the Delaware City Fire Company. Their blended family includes 5 children and 3 grandchildren. Maggie credits the support of her family and the community for helping her reach her professional goals and her educational achievements.
